Background

I have always been creative and my love of drawing, painting, decorative art and illustration inspired me to study art and design and pursue a creative career. I became interested in traditional folk art and painted a friend’s narrow boat with beautiful swags of canal roses which then led to a few sign commissions.

I gained a BA Hons degree in Interior Design and became employed and freelanced for many years as a visual merchandiser & display artist for brands including Urban Outfitters, TopShop, Miss Selfridge, Burberry, Scoth House, Liberty London and M&S. This involved everything from styling clothes and housewares, dressing windows and interior sets, prop making, graphics design and painting furniture, murals and signs.

More recently, I immersed myself in traditional signwriting and decorative canal art known as ‘Roses & Castles’. I attended courses run by Terence at Canal Arts, Phil Speight Canal Boat Painter, Paul Myerscough’s The Signpainters Academy and Joby Carter’s Signwriting Course. In early 2022, I did a stint at Carters Steam Fair, helping paint up the fairground trucks and rides ready for their final tour.

In 2022, I attended David A Smith’s (Traditional Ornamental Glass Artist) intensive glass gold leaf workshop and mastered the fine art of glass gilding.

Inspiration

I find inspiration all around me and I’m always taking photos and sketching. My love of traditional fairground, circus, and gypsy canal art came from travelling the festival scene in the UK and Eire during the 1990s.

My colourful travelling experiences and my career in interior design and retail display, has provided me with a unique sense of style and a strong design aesthetic. I have a great eye for colour and layout and the ability to tailor designs to your unique style, taste and individual needs.

I would love to hear from you. If you want something unique made specially for you, then please get in touch.
