SUPERSTAR LETTERS at The Big Art Market

Here’s a little taster of what I’ve been up to lately. I created a set of gold leaf, hand painted letters spelling SUPER STAR especially for the The Big Art Market in Wycombe Arts Centre where I am currently exhibiting until June 26th 2022 as part of Bucks Art Weeks

  • Superstar style letter S in gold leaf, purple and pink block and a cast shadow on a teal background. Hand painted and gilded on wood frame.
  • Superstar style letter U in gold leaf, orange and fire red block and cast shadow on a yellow background. Hand painted and gilded on wood frame.
  • Superstar style letter P in gold leaf, purple and violet block and cast shadow on a salmon pink background. Hand painted and gilded on wood frame.
  • Superstar style letter E in gold leaf, blue, pink and purple with a cast shadow on a chamois background. Hand painted and gilded on wood frame.
  • Superstar style letter R in gold leaf, purple and orange block with a cast shadow on a teal background. Hand painted and gilded on wood frame.
  • Superstar style letter S in gold leaf, blue and yellow block and a cast shadow on a pink background. Hand painted and gilded on glass.
  • Superstar style letter T in gold leaf, pink and orange block and a cast shadow on a blue background. Hand painted and gilded on glass.
  • Superstar style letter A in gold leaf, pale blue and yellow block and a cast shadow on a blue background. Hand painted and gilded on glass.
  • Superstar style letter R in gold leaf, pale blue and yellow block and a cast shadow on a blue background. Hand painted and gilded on glass.

The SUPER letters are painted onto plywood frames and I applied genuine 23 carat gold leaf for the extra WOW factor.

The STAR letters are made by a different process called Reverse Glass Gilding. This means that the gold leaf, paint and other elements such as mother of pearl shell and glitter are applied to the back of the glass. I have added a short process video at the end of this post.
